Photographing Weddings at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Brooklyn Botanic Garden (you might know it as Brooklyn Botanical Garden, and that works too!) is one of the most magical places I've ever photographed a wedding. Fifty-two acres of sculpted gardens, flowering trees, and winding paths right in the middle of New York City. It really shouldn't work as well as it does, and yet every single time, it completely delivers. I've shot weddings here across multiple seasons and I honestly never get tired of it. The Palm House, the Atrium, the Cherry Esplanade. I know every corner of this place, and I know exactly where to be when the light does its thing.
And the light does its thing differently every season. Spring means cherry blossoms and that soft, romantic pink glow. Summer is all lush greenery, roses, and rich color. Fall brings the amber tones and makes everything feel warm and cinematic. Each season at BBG is its own entirely different world, and I approach each one with an editorial eye. I'm not directing you into poses, I'm watching for the real, unguarded moments as they happen.
This wedding was beautifully planned by The Privilege is Mine and photographed by Betsi Ewing Weddings, a New York City wedding photography and videography studio that has called BBG one of its favorite venues for years.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden Wedding Photos
Katya and Miles got married in July, peak lily season, and the garden was absolutely bursting. The color, the texture, the light. It was one of those days where you just keep shooting because everything keeps getting better.
My favorite spot for portraits at Brooklyn Botanic Garden is the pond just behind the Palm House. There's something about that corner. The soft reflections, the way the light filters through the greenery, the quiet of it. It consistently produces the most timeless, romantic images of the day, and I always end up there.
From the pond we made our way through the rose garden and along winding paths shaded by some pretty incredible trees. By cocktail hour, the sun was doing that golden thing it does in July, filtering through the leaves and casting a warm painterly glow across everything. It's the kind of light you can't manufacture, and at Brooklyn Botanic Garden in July, you don't have to.
