New York Elopement Photographer
New York City is one of the greatest backdrops in the world for an elopement. The energy, the architecture, the light bouncing off the water at golden hour, the feeling of being in the middle of millions of people and still completely alone together. As a New York elopement photographer, I document intimate ceremonies and elopement days across the city and throughout the state, from downtown Manhattan to the Hudson Valley, the Hamptons, and Montauk.
My approach is calm and guided, with a documentary instinct for capturing authentic emotion, meaningful details, and the quiet in-between moments. The work is clean, bright, and emotional, with relaxed elegance and a timeless appeal.
Whether you are planning an intimate ceremony for two or a small gathering in the five boroughs, upstate, or out on the Island, I would love to document your day as it unfolds.
NYC Elopement Locations
The city offers more variety than most couples realize. Central Park is a classic for good reason: it is expansive, green, and full of quiet corners that feel surprisingly private even in the middle of summer. The Brooklyn Bridge Park waterfront at sunrise offers unobstructed Manhattan views with almost no crowd. DUMBO, with its cobblestone streets and framed bridge views, is one of my favorite neighborhoods for elopement portraits. Governors Island provides a relaxed, park-like setting with skyline views in every direction. For couples who want something more urban and architectural, the meatpacking district, the High Line, and the streets of the West Village all offer beautiful texture and character. And for the couples who want to keep it simple and meaningful: a quiet courthouse morning with just the two of you and a witness, followed by brunch and a walk through your favorite neighborhood, is one of the most beautiful ways to elope in New York.
Beyond NYC: New York State Elopements
New York State extends well beyond the five boroughs, and some of the most stunning elopement settings I have photographed are a couple of hours from the city. The Hudson Valley offers historic estates, dramatic river views, and fall foliage that rivals anywhere in the country. The Catskills provide forest landscapes and waterfall settings with genuine privacy. The Hamptons and Montauk offer coastal elopements with dune grass, ocean light, and that specific East End feeling that is unlike anywhere else. I travel throughout the state and can work with you wherever your vision takes you.
How NYC Elopements Work
New York City marriage licenses are obtained through the City Clerk's Office, and the ceremony must take place within 60 days of issuance. The City Clerk also offers an affordable ceremony option at their office if you want something simple and official. For couples who have already handled the legal piece and just want a meaningful experience and beautiful photography, I offer elopement coverage starting from a few hours to a full day, depending on what your plans include. We will talk through the logistics together so nothing feels complicated on the day.

Meet Betsi Ewing
Hello, I'm Betsi! I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve, and believe there is nothing more compelling than real life and real love. Celebrating them both through the art of photography and film is truly a dream! The emotional connection I build with the people I work with drives me. This connection is always based on trust, compassion, and my ability to bring out the best in my couples and the ones they love. I honor those connections by combining documentary and editorial photography and videography to create meaningful and memorable work.
I photograph elopements, weddings, and intimate celebrations throughout New York, in the city, the Hamptons, Montauk, the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, and beyond, as well as across the U.S. and internationally.

Some of my favorite NYC elopement locations include Central Park at sunrise for its green open spaces and minimal crowds, the Brooklyn Bridge Park waterfront for skyline views, DUMBO for architectural character and the iconic bridge framing, and the West Village for a more intimate neighborhood feel. Outside the city, the Hudson Valley, Catskills, and the Hamptons each offer beautiful and distinct settings depending on the season and the atmosphere you are looking for.
What are the best locations for elopement photos in New York?
NYC Elopement FAQs
To legally elope in New York City, you first obtain a marriage license from the City Clerk's Office, which requires both partners to appear in person. There is a 24-hour waiting period after the license is issued before the ceremony can take place, and the license is valid for 60 days. You can have your ceremony performed by any legally ordained officiant at a location of your choosing, or you can book a ceremony directly through the City Clerk's office. I work with couples at every stage of the planning process and can connect you with experienced officiants if you need one.
How do you elope in New York City?
Yes. I photograph elopements throughout New York State including the Hudson Valley, the Catskills, the Hamptons, Montauk, and Long Island. I travel throughout the state and can work with you wherever your vision takes you. Travel beyond the New York metro area may involve a travel fee depending on location.
Do you travel outside of New York City for elopements?
How far in advance should I book my New York elopement photographer?
For NYC elopements in popular seasons, particularly spring and fall, I recommend booking two to four months in advance at minimum. For elopements tied to a specific location like Central Park at a particular time of year, or for couples combining their elopement with a longer trip to the city, earlier is always better. I do take last-minute bookings when my calendar allows, so it is always worth reaching out even if your timeline is short.
