Pine Creek Cookhouse Wedding

Pine Creek Cookhouse is one of the most scenic wedding venues in Colorado. Tucked into the Ashcroft ghost town just outside Aspen, surrounded by the Elk Mountains and accessible by sleigh in winter, it offers an atmosphere that no resort or ballroom can replicate. Rustic, remote, deeply beautiful, and entirely its own.

As an Aspen wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of documenting celebrations at this beautiful venue. I photographed Jeff and Zoe’s Pine Creek Cookhouse reception after their ceremony on top of Aspen Mountain at The Little Nell. Their multi location celebration across the Aspen area captured everything magical about getting married in this part of Colorado. My approach at Pine Creek is the same as everywhere I work, present, unobtrusive, and focused on real moments as they unfold. The venue does most of the work. I am there to make sure none of it gets missed.

Their Aspen wedding weekend was featured in Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine under the title “Luxury Aspen Wedding Meets Rodeo Disco.'"

We couldn’t be happier with Betsi as our Aspen wedding photographer. She made us feel completely at ease and captured our Aspen mountain top wedding so beautifully. The photos are natural, emotional, and truly reflect the day. If you’re planning an Aspen wedding and want someone experienced, professional, and incredibly talented, Betsi Ewing Weddings is the best wedding photographer in Aspen! Thank you Betsi!!

Wedding Photography at Pine Creek Cookhouse

Pine Creek Cookhouse sits at the end of Castle Creek Road in Ashcroft, Colorado. It is 11 miles from downtown Aspen. In winter, guests arrive by horse-drawn sleigh through a snow-covered valley framed by 14,000-foot peaks. In summer, wildflower meadows surround the property and the open sky creates extraordinary natural light from morning through golden hour.

The venue is intimate by design. Ceremonies typically take place on the outdoor deck or in the meadow, with the Elk Mountains as a backdrop. Receptions inside the historic cookhouse building are warm, candlelit, and full of character.

Photographing weddings here requires understanding how the light behaves in this valley, how the seasons transform the setting, and how to move between the outdoor ceremony space and the intimate interior without missing a moment. Having documented a full Pine Creek Cookhouse celebration from arrival through reception, I know this venue (and light) in the way that matters.

What Makes Pine Creek Cookhouse Unique

The Setting: There is nowhere else quite like Ashcroft. The historic ghost town, the narrow valley, the meadows, the mountains, it creates a wedding backdrop that is both wild and refined. No two seasons look the same here, and no two weddings feel the same.

The Sleigh Ride: Winter weddings at Pine Creek Cookhouse arrive by horse-drawn sleigh. It is one of the most memorable guest experiences of any wedding I have photographed, an arrival that feels like a fairy tale and creates images unlike anything else in Colorado wedding photography.

The Scale: Pine Creek is intentionally intimate. The venue suits smaller guest counts, which means a more personal, connected celebration. It photographs beautifully precisely because of this intimacy.

The Light: The open valley and mountain walls create exceptional directional light throughout the day. Late afternoon in particular, as the sun clears the western ridge and fills the meadow, is among the best natural light I have worked in anywhere.

Planning Your Pine Creek Cookhouse Wedding

Pine Creek Cookhouse books quickly, particularly for summer and fall dates when the meadows are in full bloom and the mountains are accessible for extended portrait sessions. Winter sleigh ride weddings are equally special and tend to have more availability for those who plan early.

I book a limited number of Pine Creek Cookhouse weddings each year. If you have a date in mind, now is a great time to reach out. I would love to hear about your vision and share what the day could look like.

Not quite at the wedding planning stage yet? I also photograph Aspen engagement sessions, a lovely way to get familiar with each other in front of the camera before the big day.

Pine Creek Cookhouse Wedding Photography FAQs

Both seasons are extraordinary and entirely different. Winter brings a snow-covered valley, cozy candlelit interiors, and the iconic sleigh ride arrival. Summer and fall offer wildflower meadows, open sky ceremonies, extended golden hour, and easier access for guests. The photography is exceptional in both seasons.

What is a Pine Creek Cookhouse wedding like in winter versus summer?

Pine Creek Cookhouse is located in Ashcroft, Colorado, approximately eleven miles south of Aspen in the Castle Creek Valley. In winter, the venue is accessible by horse-drawn sleigh from a staging area at the end of the plowed road. In summer and fall, guests drive or shuttle directly to the property.

Where exactly is Pine Creek Cookhouse located?

Have you photographed weddings at Pine Creek Cookhouse before?

Yes. I photographed Jeff and Zoe’s reception at Pine Creek Cookhouse following their ceremony at The Little Nell in Aspen. The full celebration was featured in Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine. I know how the venue flows, how the light behaves, and how to work within the intimate space without disrupting anything.

Yes. Betsi Ewing Weddings offers both wedding photography and cinematic wedding films, and Pine Creek Cookhouse is a venue that translates beautifully to video. The natural soundscape, the sleigh ride arrival, the intimate reception — all of it makes for compelling film. Many couples here choose both.

Do you offer videography at Pine Creek Cookhouse weddings?

Is Pine Creek Cookhouse part of a larger Aspen wedding day?

Often, yes. Many Pine Creek Cookhouse weddings are multi-venue days, combining an Aspen ceremony at a location like The Little Nell, The St. Regis, or an outdoor mountain setting with a Pine Creek reception. I photograph multi-venue days regularly and know how to build a timeline that works across Aspen and Ashcroft without losing any of the day.
